    ATV Problem, help???

I have a new Honda Rancher, less than yr old. It has electric shift which is what I think my problem is. I keep having a dead or weak battery. I ride appx 3-4 times in a 2 week period but only for a couple of miles to check a feeder. A friend says that Im not riding it enough to charge it and the electric shift uses a lot of juice. Is this common?

Bad battery would be my guess.

      That can't be normal.

I kind of see my friends point about not riding enough or getting enough rpms to recharge it while riding but I wouldn't think it would go down that often. Was hoping maybe someone else had this type quad that would know. Thanks

I have one with the electric shift had that problem once ride all weekend at the lease go back the next week and battery dead. Bad battery. Also with a low battery you may experience shifting issues.

Pull the ground wire off and touch it to your battery to see if there is a spark while everything is off. If there is a spark then you have something drawing down the battery and will have to trace it down. If no spark most likely bad battery do a load test on it to see.

This is the problem I had with mine, it will kill a battery in 2 days.

It's not normal something is draining the battery or it's just a bad one.

Do you have a winch. May be connected to an unswitched power source. Will draw a battery down

Yes on winch but was doing this prior to winch also. If I putna batt disconnect switch on, will it mess up the computer stuff and display info etc?

Why not take it in to the dealer if it's new? Isn't it still under warranty?

Had the same issue with mine, it was a 2010 420. Changed the battery and put a trickle charger on it. Problem solved.

The only thing it would adversely effect is if you have a clock on the display. Otherwise, everything would still work just fine by installing a battery disconnect switch.
