    Road building help

So we just closed on our place in bosque county. Lots of elevation and rocks.

We have a couple roads that are getting rough on the hills with ledges in the rock, and large chunks of rock washing out.

Any suggestions on how to smooth them out and keep them from washing out, in future.

you need ditches on both sides with a slight crown in the road to keep the water from washing at away. after that just put down new roadbase and you'll have a road for years.

        What those guys said ^

I will add a couple things...not knowing what kind of money you’d like to spend on this...

        - There are mobile rock crushers that can come out and crush the rock in place, give you pretty nice road base without hauling any material in. I have used a local company a few times.

        - If you have a spot that is prone to washing, regardless of the crown, you can buy bags of pure portland cement and dump them on the gravel you have laid. You will want to mix it in with something, some sort of plow, and water it and roll it. I believe the ratio is 2 bags per cubic yard. It will set it very strong. We did this on a section of my parents driveway, SUPER steep, and it has held up very well for about a year now. Clearly, more cement is better than less. Gravel is cheap, hauling into place is what eats you up. *Let me know if you need any more info on either. Good luck

As Haines said a mobile rock crusher, road base around here is about 5-600 delivered for 25 tons and that's gonna depend on how close you have somebody to you and that adds up quick
