Dove hunt with a kid question

    Have a question.
I'm going dove hunting in the morning and I'm taking my 6 year old daughter. She's going to set with her red rider BB gun. Does she need a license? I wouldn't think she would, just want to make sure.
Really just taking her for the experience. It's not like she's going to shoot a bird. She'll probably shoot at them to play along with dad but the chances of her hitting one with a red rider BB gun is slim to none...

    So what says the GS?

I emailed a GW but it might be to late to hear anything back from them tonight.

Why not just in case? It's only 7 bucks

I believe you can go online and get her tags they don't require you to pay for license till 16

Brings back memories. Daughter & son had their BB guns but they had more fun shagging for the ones I shot. 45 years later, wish we could do it again. Cherish the time...

I don't mind getting her one, and I will the next time we go to town.
Just didn't think she would go until 30 minutes ago and we live 30 minutes from town.

a little late for in the morning, but I would go ahead and get her a license. she'll like having her own.

but for your question... I would like to think that you would be fine...but...you just don't know nowadays.

              Y'all have fun.

2 things: 1. If she is going to shoot at a dove, she is hunting, and needs a license. Doesn't matter if she hits it or not. 2. A BB gun is not a legal means of take, so technically, she can't legally have a BB gun to hunt doves.

I asked a GW about the BB gun deal with a kid, and he said that there's no way he would write a ticket for that. But, I didn't ask about having a hunting license. I just got him a license. It's $7, and the kid will be proud to have that first license on this hunt. You can buy it online tonight and print the receipt. They will mail it to you. I bought our APH permits online today.

Just go online and get a license. Not that a GW should write a ticket for that

And I'm not sure, but I think they did away with the BB gun law.
I know they did for rabbits and squirrels. So I'm assuming g for birds too...???
That'd be a good question to ask as well.

I need a "customer #" which is now pending... I guess until tomorrow or Tuesday. I don't know how long that takes.
But can't buy online without it.

You shouldn't need a customer number....they should give you one. You do have to have the ss number though.

And I'm pretty sure air guns aren't legal for dove but a red Ryder isn't legal for anything. They must meet a certain ft/lb requirement. Not that I didn't use one at the age of 6.

Spend the $7.00 and get her a hunting license. She will remember it and it will mean something to her. My daughter, Hunter, just said she remembers getting her first hunting license and she felt like it was an accomplishment. She has gone to the ranch and hunting with us since she was born, but the moment she got her license was so exciting. It felt like she got to participate with everyone else.

If your daughter is shooting at any species, bird or animal, legally, she is required to have a hunting license. Heck, you are required to have one if you are catching "taking" frogs...
