Serious question about 2013 RAM 2500

Ok, I know these threads tend to open a can of whoop a@@ on OP but I need to ask the GS. Has anyone had a recall or problems with the DEF sensor/catalytic converter on their RAM? I have a 2013 w/ ~ 35k mi and it went out last Saturday. Got stuck in limp mode and took 30 min to limp to the closest dealership. Too cheap to call a tow truck for a short trip..

Anyways, truck has been @ the Mckinney Dodge dealership for a week now and they said their was high demand for catalytic converters for these trucks and causing the back order issue. Has anyone heard this?

Also, didn't know the catalytic converter was connected/related to the DEF sensor. This is really chapping my a@@ and I'm missing out on my hunters meeting at the lease this weekend. ugh!

Hate to hear this! Got mine last Dec., have around 11k, on it. So far no problems with mine or any of the others at work, we've got 5 in the field but mine is the only 2500.

The DEF actually causes a reaction in the catalyst that reduces NOx to N2 and H20. It is quite effective means of reducing smog pollution. If the DEF sensor believes it is out of DEF, the ecm thinks you are polluting the world - therefore limp home mode. This is the only real connection between the sensor and the catalyst. A failed sensor by itself should not damage the catalyst. However, if you have a bad DEF injector, it could certainly saturate your catalyst and cause damage. I haven't heard of multiple failures for cummins, but 2013 is the first year for their DEF system. Good luck.

i've had in the shop about 5 x's due computer updates.... every update would cause the engine light to come on and that would disable the remote start feature. i really like the cummins motor but these other problems are really a PITA. Thanks for info TEX4k

Thanks Hot Rod! That is good info to know. I've had other issues with the '13 computer needing updates. took it back to the dealership several times and all they did was a pc update. this didn't cause the limp mode but did cause a few other issues. The motor and tranny seem strong and since it's paid for I don't want to get rid of it. maybe i got a lemon??

My wife said the engine light came on Thursday and it's showing it to be an O2 sensor problem. It's going in the shop Tuesday so who knows what it'll actually be.

Mine is a 2013 2500 with 55*** miles on it. No issues until now.

It won't bother me if it takes a couple of months but I also have a Jeep, and company pickup and she has access to a company truck at her job.
Of course she won't like driving the one they will let her but that's her problem
