Look at the Excalibur Matrix line-up, not as wide as the Excaliburs from years gone past. May not be within your price range, but I really like my Matrix 380. Anything goes wrong with it, such as string break, I can change it myself while in the field, no press needed.

knew that was coming from someone....Antler, be nice....just got my subscription to Deer & Deer Hunting and it was devoted to crossbows. I know you are just "stirring the pot," but whatever one uses to get out in the field and grow our sport....

I would not waste money on a wheeled crossbow. Get an Excalibur and never look back. I had over 1000 shots on my last bow before I sold it to Airhead and never had any issues. I killed lots of critters with it.

I just bought a barnett raptor. $350 at cabelas. Excellent crossbow and tons of fun!

Barnett jackal, I know several people that have them and have no problems . You can find them for around $350 ready to hunt

Carbon Express has a pretty good xbow out too. I would shop Academy first though. They are far cheaper than Cabelas.

I second that. The red dot that comes with it sucked. I replaced it with a Nikon BDC Xbow scope and it's a tack driver. My wife killed a buck and 2 pigs with it last year. My 7 year old daughter is going to hunt with it opening weekend.
