SAN ANTONIO – Good news for hunters and bad news for doves: The Texas Parks and Wildlife department projects a memorable dove-hunting season this year.
Both mourning and white-winged dove populations have increased since last year, meaning a "good" season, according to a news release.
Dove Program Leader Shaun Oldenburger said in the release that the estimated mourning dove population reaches almost 66.6 million. The number has increased by 5 percent since last year and more than 8 percent over 10 years.
The white-winged dove population is estimated at 6.6 million, increasing by 5 percent from last year and 12 percent since 2008.
