    4-wheeler problems

I have a '93 Suzuki quadrunner 250 4x4 that has been giving me a headache for quite some time now. I changed the oil, rebuilt the carb (except for the screws that WOULD NOT come out and the diaphragm), put a new battery in, ran Lucus in the gas, prayed it would start.... And the dang thing does not fire up like it should!!! I am going to put a new diaphragm in tomorrow (because the shop is not open today) to see if that will help. If it does not, my brother and I are going to find a way to get the remaining old parts of the carb taken out and replaced. I am at my wits end with this thing, but when it does get started she runs like a champ, and it's hard to beat a 4 wheeler in the south texas scrub.

Has anybody else had this problem with this type of 4 wheeler or similar? If so, what did you diagnose as the problem?

See if it will push start. If so the valves are out of adjustment. Most likely that or you have s piece of trash in the carb. Sometime I have to clean the carb 2-3 times. It usually so small you can't see it, grain of sand size.

Thanks!!!! I'll try and push start it tonight to check.

Just to be clear, you meant that "If it DOES start when push starting, then the valves are out of adjustment", correct?

Im sure you have checked this, but it is getting fire right? Id hate for you to spend all your time on the carb issue and it be another issue.

Yes. We replaced the spark plug and right before I bought it from my BIL he had a new spark plug wire put in. It is just odd because every once in a while it'll fire up just fine, then the next try it will act like it's gonna start and then die out back to the battery turning it and nothing really happening.

I just acquired a Suzuki about the same year model. I bought it from a friend. He had the same issue with it. He rebuilt the carb multiple times. He ended up buying a new carb off Ebay and replaced it. Runs like new again.

I had one I totally rebuilt! The magneto could be nasty if it's not getting good fire! Also check the air filter as I had a rat nest in mine! Fuel, Air and Fire is all they need they really are great machines!

I had a older Honda do that. Turned out to be a plug wire. It was so corroded inside the insulation that it wouldn't start 95% of the time.

Try starting it on starting fluid
                    Check for spark
                    Check valve clearances
                    Check compression

Well... I dumped a new carburetor in it because everything else was fine.... She runs like a champ and starts no problem!!!! To say I am happy doesn't come close. I can already imagine how many sacks of corn and, good lord willing, deer that thing will haul this year
