I may be looking at it wrong but if pet tortises can carry diseases back to wild ones then maybe it's not a bad thing. Like they said, funds could go to preserving wildlife and habitat.

Surely OUR Government wouldn't tell us half truths, bad science or, God forbid, lie!!

Yeah....its not about the tortoise, its about politics just like 99 percent of other endangered species. Usually its just a way to stop a hydro-electric dam that would compete with another power plant, Stop a road that would divert traffic away from someones prime property, give an excuse to evict cattle ranchers, etc....

Granted they may carry disease back to the wild but how does sterilizing them help that? Unless it's an STD? Maybe give them condoms before they are released.
