I believe that is correct. The way I understand the story, the one that was scored as the world record, was discovered to be a set of sheds screwed to a mount when the taxidermy was redone. The other set was on a skull cap but actually cracked so it couldnt be officially scored for BC and would score considerably less. I think pics of both racks are posted above.

It is certainly a legendary deer although it really shouldn't qualify as a hunter taken record. This is my understanding but please correct any of this that isn't accurate.

It is entered as a pick up, like the non Typ world record non Typ from Missouri.

That's the way I understand it also except the entered pick up score is actually from a set of sheds.

There is some info on him here:

Albert's brother started friedrich air conditioning. He started a bar.... The Buckhorn.

That's my understanding of family history.

Now I understand the history and your buck being hung at the Saloon, very cool!

Yes the Brady Buck is officially scored at 284-3/8 in the Boone and Crockett book as a kill as the Texas Non-Typical State Record.

I dont think anyone was arguing that the brady buck was bigger.

I think the article even stated that.

The secrecy pretty much had to do with wanting to make sure the score was totally verified and reinforced. Once it occured to them and the scorer the actual size of what they had it then had to be verified by other scorers...had the buck scored, say 40 inches less or so Id be willing to bet the story woud have came forwards somewhat sooner.

Tell Mark, I saw a bachelor group down there in July that had another one with a big ball of stuff on his head. Don't know how he finished out but he may have pics...
