    Remove gaminess from meat.

I just found this. Anyone tried it?

    1. Put the meat in a cooler with the drain open so water can drain out.
    2. Pack it with ice and keep it packed with ice for 4 days. [Note: very important]
    3. Rinse meat and close drain.
    4. Mix a box of baking soda with enough water to cover the meat in the cooler.
    5. Pack it with ice and leave it for 24 hours. Add ice as needed.
    6. Rinse meat and you will find that the “gaminess” is gone. The baking soda takes it out.

+1. It's how you take care of it before during and after cleaning also.

I keep icy water freshened every 24 hours for about 3 days. No baking soda needed. Works very well. If you do this and are meticulous when you clean the animal you may be able to convince your wife that this meat is just as good as store bought. I have!

The longer the meat can "drain" the more "game" taste will go away. I've been told 2-4 days or until the meat is a ruby red. Works well for me.

Many of us have done steps 1 and 2 with good results.

I would be interested in hearing the results you get with this technique.

                Always open to new ideas.

                  This is all you need.

Done this with big boars some people wouldn't even bother to process. Drain and keep covered with ice for 5 days and fed 30 people with no complaints

I never do anything to my deer or hogs except take the tube from gland running up rear legs out while gutting. Quarter and put in cooler with ice as soon as I get back to truck. Never had an issue with gaminess.

I've only ever had "gamey" meat in old bucks in the middle of the rut. Even then the gaminess isn't bad it the meat is kept SUPER clean (no urine, stomach contents, dirt, etc.) and gets cold quickly. Gut the deer as soon as you get to it and get it on ice QUICKLY! Does and young bucks have ZERO gamey flavor then.

I have still to discover what gamey tastes like.
