    Hog panels and cattle?

We used 11 hog panels the I bought really cheap. We put it in a circle and raised it about 2" and put a t post at the junctions and in the middle. Will it work for cattle?

Are you using around a feeder to keep cows out?

it's always worked for me. heck, this year i put the cheap rolled fence around one feeder... cows haven't messed with it.

I personally would not have raised it 2 inches if you have pigs because it will give them a chance to get there noses under it and that could cause problems. I've never had a problem with cattle getting in with the hog panels but I have heard in some rare cases of them getting in.

I had a young bull jump in my pen ,back during the spring time. While I has standing there!I have 4 hog panels and 8 taller(40").I have not hunted this set up yet,to see if it will be a problem while hunting.

I'd worry more about the deer being put off by it than the cows getting in. No matter how well a whitetail can jump, they don't like to. Particularly into a small or confining area. Sounds like with 11 you should be big enough. Some of it depends on breed of cattle. A bunch of angus or charlais aren't like to jump it, but put some brahman blood in one, and they may jump it for fun.

This^^^ I'd worry about the pigs with it off the ground.

I have one with hog panel this year for the first time and cows haven't messed with it yet. It's BIG though! 16 panels. The corn stays inside the pen so it's not tempting to the cows.

If they start leaning on it, I'll put a strand of barbed wire across the top.

Believe it or not we don't have pigs. Never even seen one on camera.

The two inches might not be exact. The space wasn't much at the bottom. 11 panels made a good size circle.

it should do a good job keeping them out, minus the occasional crazy one that decides to jump in. it happens sometimes on the shorter panels.

To answer your question it depends on the cows. In the past hog panels have worked just fine.

Also in the past I have had hog panels with a t post every 4 feet and 2 strands of barbed wire over the top of that and the cows still got in.

cows could never eat feeder thrown corn. they need a pile to eat something so small. now knocking over a feeder makes a pile, so anchoring the legs is never a bad idea. we had a coon incident which dumped a pile, and the cows found a way over 3 foot panels to get at 250 lbs of corn.

if an animal ever decides it can do something, it will. it has nothing else to do anyway.
