    Arrow Speed Down Range

Is there a formula to figure out a arrows speed down range if you know the speed coming out of the bow?

Yes, but it is an involve algorithm for which you need a drag coefficient for the fletching, shaft diameter and other considerations. It is however not a precise equation without factoring in air density, wind direction and point shape and drag as well. There are programs like OnTarget 2 and others that can get you a ball park number.

Thats what I figured. My head hurts.

My 165 fps, 550 grain arrow from my recurve is point on at 27 yards and is 38" ish low at 40 yds.

I'm trying to figure out KE or MO at 30 yds for an elk hunt.

Just put a chronograph down at 30 yards and shoot through it. Come on now, you know you can shoot that good.

I tired to come up with a standard equation in physics class. Too many variables comes in to play.

I have a chrono. I thought the arrow would lose speed real fast. It doesn't. From 3 yards to 20 there isn't a lot of difference on my setup- fairly slow with FMJs.
