This hits a nerve with me somewhat. I procrastinated when they were $600, then again at $1,000. Now they are $1,800 and it does not come close to making sense for me at that price. Why did they have to go up so much??? Talk about discouraging people from buying lifetime licenses. I would really like to see how many they sold since raising the price so high. Seriously. We should be encouraging people to buy a license, not discouraging them.

Yep. I got mine the year before they went up. It was 2007.

Interest rates and inflation are the problem. Back when I bought mine you could get 6% or so on a passbook savings account. The idea was for the government to invest the money and sort of pay it out like an annuity.

An old guy told me it was dumb to buy one cause you could put the money in the bank and buy a license every year with the interest earned. I'm glad I didn't listen.

It still makes sense for me age/price. But that's a tough sell to the wife, maybe I'll suggest it as a special gift. Or two.

Why wait until he is 18? Get it now. Never know when they will go up again.

I wish that my dad had gotten me one back when they were $300, but lisences were cheap so he never did. We got my son his last year for Christmas, and he will be 3 next month. I think his will end up being worth the money spent in the long run.

That's when a hunting license was just 6 dollars and that covered everything, except Federal. Wasn't any stamps back then to add to it. Sure wished I'd had bought one then!!!
I beleive your right Sqiggy. I moved back here in '81, two weeks after my last child was born. That's when I noticed the lifetime. That was still more than I made in a week back then. I dont' know if I still have that license. I'll have to go digging .

FYI, this is the price for both hunting and fishing license.
I think, the lifetime hunting only license is $1000.
