    A question for plumbers!

For the last few years, I've had plumbing issues. Stopped up toilets. (Don't ask). Anyway, I can usually fix the problem with my 36" Home Depot root rooter thingy. Well this time, the 36" tool would not fix the problem. So today, after 3 days, I go to Home Depot and buy the 72" mega blaster thingy. I take it home, and give it a few spins, and the water starts draining. At this point, the snake gets stuck. I pulled and twisted the handle, but it was stuck. It appeared that the point was caught, as after I twisted it, it wanted to reverse itself several times. For a minute, I laughed at the situation-clog is gone, but now there is a 6' pipe and handle sticking out of my toilet. I pulled, and twisted and it finally came free. When I went to put the tool away, there was a piece of plastic caught in the end of the spiral. (Now going Tapatalk to post pictures)

How far into the pipe did you hit it?

Could be root broke through the pipe.

If it is close enough to the toilet you might pull the toilet and get a light and mirror to investigate the line. Hope it's close enough to patch without digging stuff up.

Sorry for the delay. As far as I know, the 4" drain line should be solid. What in the heck it this? Would there be any kind of hard black plastic this close to the toilet?

Shouldn't be unless your drain pipe is black. I would guess it is standard white pipe. I would plan on removing the toilet from the floor flange and taking a look down the pipe.

This toilet is about 4' from an exterior wall. The closest tree is a hackberry, and is probably 20' from the wall. I had extended the snake just over 36" when it got stuck.

That makes the problem 1 foot from the exterior wall and easier to fix if you find a brake in the pipe. I would pull the toilet and check the line with a light and mirror first. If the pipe is broken, then dig in from the outside and replace it from underneath. Add a clean out when you replace the line outside to help with future problems.
              Hope this helps you.

Maybe a piece of ABS blk plastic pipe??

Pull toilet and see if you see something then go from there. Or call a good local plumber.

Could that be part of a rubber reducer or connector to an air vent? If so, it would be in a wall I guess, above the slab.

What I'm not understanding is that my pipes are in the slab- so where in the system could here be black plastic? Now this one is close to the edge of the slab, but I remember when I put in the last 50 of 4" PVC going to the tank. The piece I tied onto was also PVC.

A real man would take the toilet off and just stick his arm down in the hole and feel around for the problem.

That looks like the plastic piece that is attached to some wax rings. If you haven't pulled the toilet, pull it. It may have never been seated right from day one and causing your problems all along.

That's why you hire a plumber.
