Mainly wanna hear what the bassists have to say about applying the circle of 5ths but any other musicians feel free to chime on. This is what I understand so far:
Regardless of whether the chord is major or minor the root and fifth are the same. When you move from fifth to fifth it's one string up two frets up or same fret one string down to drop an octave. Whether you drop an octave fifth for the second chord root or the third you end up with a I, IV, V which I think is a common chord progression in music?
So other than understanding fifths as an easy way to find two solid notes the bass can anchor to while playing under a chord or predicting what the most likely chord might be next in a song, what the heck do you use/memorize the circle of fifths for?
