Check my math on corn

My corn supply came in today.


Fill er up please.


A load and a half in the Taco and I was able to fill four 55 gallon barrels.




A bushel = 8 gallons
A bushel shell corn = 56 lbs.
4 barrels = 220 gallons

220/8= 27.5 bushels x 56 = 1540 lbs. of corn

Is this right?

guessing 55 gal drums seem to hold about 350 pounds of corn (7 bags), so for 4 of them I'd say 1400 pounds....... so your 1540 is close if they were absolutely topped off as much as you can fit in them probably... or spread some out around the feeder while you filled them

It's not worth the difference to me to have pick up the bulk corn, screen it as you scoop it in the barrels, load and haul the full barrels to the feeder sites, & scoop it in the feeder barrels.

I think the math is right, but when I was filling 55gal drums they would only hold about 300# so I come up with 1200#.

My 55gal feeders will hold 300# + a little, and that's with internal funnels.

I just filled up 7-55 gal barrels and they each held 300 lbs and they all had funnels inside so I'm thinking each barrel will hold 350 lbs with out funnels.

With the price of corn and diesel, I can hardly afford to bait the trap......but their last meal is good.
