I went to the viewing this evening. It was packed with many folks, as I expected it to be. The lines were long and many people gathered in the foyers, talking in soft voices. Many people visited and some people finally met face to face that have only communicated over social media as the short life of baby Kaden and the pain and heartache of Cody and Johnna played out over the months. When my time came to visit with Cody and Johnna, I had no words for them that they had not heard over a thousand times before. I just reassured them that my family was there for them if and when they needed us, for any reason. Cody and I both cried like children on each other's shoulders for a few moments. He then took me over to the crib where he introduced me to his son. Kaden was so peaceful and looked like a doll. Cody told me that he got to read him a story before he went to be with Jesus. I honestly don't know how Cody and Johnna are making it through. They are a true testament of leaning on God in this time of their life. As I was about to leave, Cody told me that when things settle down, he wants to go get some "gun powder therapy" and see about hunting some dove or pigs. I told him I'd do my best to make it happen. If you're reading this, have kids, be sure to give them an extra squeeze tonight before you lay them down to sleep and please say a prayer for their safety and security. I am going to do it for mine. You never know what tomorrow holds.

In addition to the prayers, another cool and inspirational thing happened to my buddy and his wife. As they were transporting the baby back to his home county for burial, our local FD and all of the surrounding volunteer FD's and nearby counties met them at the county line and gave them an amazing escort to the funeral home. Faith in humanity restored.
