Home security question?

I live in an old but good neighborhood but recently my girlfriend has moved in with me. I never payed much attention to security aside from locking doors at night. We both own guns and I have two full grown labs inside the house. I was curious if anyone had any suggestions about alarms/surveillance/ ect. Im always traveling and I want her to feel safe! Thanks for any insight guys!

Check out simple safe. Pretty cheap home security diy kinda stuff and it's wireless so if power goes out or cut it still works and sends a signal to you phone and the agency.

I have adt, got it cheap when bought our new house. You mentioned two labs I can from experience say do not turn on a alarm system with dogs in the house. If you have sensors on the window if they bark or bump window hard enough it will set it off. But I got the alarm just for the added benefit, most guns I have are in safe except my carry gun. It just lets the burglar know he has 45 sec before call is made to police so not much time to plunder

Dogs and guns are the best security you can get. 20 years in LE and only seen one burglary with inside dogs- they were sleeping in bed with mom and dad and bedroom door closed.

O.K. Here's my thought on the deal. I've got a mutt (yes, a mutt, rescue from the pound), hates everybody but myselft and life in Chinese chef/maid. We live in a pretty crime free city. The city police tell me they have never had a break in where a large dog was involved. What that means is kind of interpretation, but I'll take it. So, we had new doors installed with dead bolts in steel frames. No wood there. It's just one of those things. Be prepared. If somebody walks in my bedroom and wants to take whatever is there ... I'm pretty much o.k with that. I can replace it or get it back. Threaten our lives? He'l got some 12 ga bird shot to worry about. Ever scene what 12 ga bird shot does at 10 yards? it ain't pretty.

I've had Vivint for the last 5 yrs and very quick to respond when we accidentally set the alarm off. Plus my wife and I are pretty good shots! ADT was waaaaayyyy too expensive and Comcast was a joke. Most have contracts so if you don't want one make sure you ask about it before you sign anything.
