    Vanilla....for deer

I've heard of this in the past and was reminded of it in a few recent threads.

Does it matter if it's pure vanilla or imitation vanilla?
Do you use it straight or mix with water?
If mixing, does the ratio really matter?

    Any other tips?

That'll only work in deep south texas or in Mexico^ The deer will know.

I have always heard real Vanilla mixed with water. Toyed with it some last year but have no definitive data to share.

I always heard to use imitation and mix it with water. I did this last year and sprayed a bunch of leaves on some trees and came back the next week and all the leaves I sprayed it on were gone but that's my only experiment I did with it.

I am a big believer if used like I use it. I take a bottle of vanilla and pour it in a spray bottle then fill with water. probably 10 to one water to vanilla and spray my corn with it. Deer love it on corn. I always spray my boots and clothing. It isn't a substitute for having the wind right but definitely helps with scent where I hand corn.

I had a big bottle of Mexico vanilla and loved it but now Im back to Walmart.

I also pour a little in my feeders and just a couple ounces will make the entire 300lbs smell good.

                Real stuff

I tried the fake stuff last year and the aroma was not as strong.
Now if I had used more than one bottle it may have been the same.

What is the difference in Mexico vanilla and pure vanilla that you can buy at the store?

                        Guys,
What's this vanilla thing y'all speak of? How big of a bottle of vanilla? How big of a spray bottle? Sounds like hogwash, but I'm willing to try just about anything.

The stuff in the store is stronger. It's EXTRACT hence the reason to mix with water.

I've never used it for deer but it got my first black bear in michigan to close for comfort at the age of 14. I will give a public service announcement. If you use it as a cover scent for bear hunting change your boots before climbing your stand. This is extremely important or your shot will be at a matter of inches while using your safety harness to lean out.
