    Socks???

What are the best socks? For warm weather and cold weather. Im starting to get my gear ready for my elk trip to CO next year and need some help on socks and brands.

Eric, I use thin polypropylene socks as a base layer, and wool socks when it's cold. The liners keep your feet dry and thus warmer. Don't wear too thick a sock. That cuts down on circulation and makes your feet cold. I take a lot of socks and change during the day. For hot weather, I just use plain old cotton, and I change them a lot, too.

I like Smartwool. I wear the thin ones for moderate to cool weather and the thicker ones for cold weather.

The key is to use a sock liner. Panty hose also work really well as a liner.

Black Mountain High Country made by Gean-Edwards company. Best I've ever owned bar none! I've had several pairs that I've been using for over 5 years and have yet to have a hole in one.

I just wear golden toe, most comfortable IMO.

Smartwool. I've tried different brands, and have found the REI's last the longest. I figure I get 1 year out of them- buy 4 pairs for elk, use then in my waders for ducks, and then the rest of the year for general hunting use, but always get new ones for elk.

Wool, when it's cold. It's the only sock that will keep you warm when it's wet.

If it's really warm, just wear a plain old pair of white sport socks.

I grew up in the Teton mountains in Wyoming and that's what we, and all the guides working for our guide operation, always wore hunting elk. The weather in Colorado is about the same- only not as cold.

                            Have a great time!

Wouldn't this question best be answered by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers?
