I am reading " Comanches: History of a People" by T.R. Ferenbach. A looooong book that traces what became known as the Comanche Nation from their roots as a prehistoric tribe in the mountains through their evolution into the fierce and dominant horse Indians of the Great Plains. I've read a whole bunch of books about the Comanche but this is far and away the most comprehensive.
