Balancing (so it won't wobble): read the directions. Nothing looks more ghetto than a wobbly ceiling fan. I'd say 95% of the fans I've installed have need a little balancing, but it's so easy, a caveman can do it.
Have installed a bunch, they're very simple.
Also, stay away from cheapo fans. I generally won't touch anything besides Hunter or Coastal Breeze. Hampton Bays have consistently been disasters.
I have installed hundreds of them and have never used a balancing kit.
Same here. You're one of the few that I suspect has hung as many or more than I have.
Hang it right, with proper support, and they seldom wobble. Even the cheap ones.
I am a big believer in Craftmade Fans. They are extremely well made. Hunter and Casablanca are close behind. (FYI - the Hunter fanss at HD are not the same as you get from a lighting store) None of these are cheap, but you get what you pay for with them.
If you're on a budget, the ones from a big box store will stir the air, but won't last as long. The fans in my house are cheap-o fans from Lowes. They are 12 years old, and just now starting to make funny noise.
Do any of the blades look to be hanging lower than the others? Check all screws that hold the blades to the motor. A lot of times they will come loose due to poor installation and bind up the motor.
I have a Harbor Breeze that I will give to you. It has hummed since day one. It now resides in the barn waiting for me to remember togive it away to some deaf person. We put two Hunters in the living room. One has been running for eighteen years nearly non stop. I am sure that there are other good ones out there but I have no experience with them. I will not tolerate a sqeaky, wobbly, or humming fan in my house and that seems to be what you get with more economy priced fans.
