NBR - Best Buy vs. Lowe's extended warranty

My wife and I have spent gazillions of dollars at Lowe's and Best Buy. Suddenly we need a new refrigerator. The one we want is $2160. Best Buy's 5 year Black Tie warranty is $600. Lowe's is just $149! Lowe's is supposed to provide the exact same coverage - the contracted repair company comes out and fixes it, they cover food spoilage, they have lemon replacement, etc., everything Best Buy has.

That's a HUGE cost difference. Does anybody out there have any knowledge or comment that might be helpful?

I don't do the warranty, seems to be a waist of money IMO. If can't last that long I will be looking for another brand. Just me.

I got some appliances from best buy and would not do it again. They broke and I did not do the extended warranty. Trying to get anything thru best buy was a joke because even though I bought the appliances at the best buy store it was actually from another company that sells appliances in the best buy store and that was who i had to deal with not best buy. I believe it was Pacific or something like that.

Against my better judgement, I bought the extended warranty from Lowe's on a lawnmower a couple years ago. Mower wouldn't run. Called in a claim. I talked to every repair company that the warranty people told me I could take it to, but NONE of them would accept the warranty work from Lowe's. They told me that they never got paid for those repairs, so they refused to accept the work. I bought a new mower from one of the local shops. No extended warranty, but they'll honor the manufacturer's warranty and fix it if it ever needs it.

I don't know if their warranty on appliances is the same or if it is better though.

I had a local appliance repair shop come out when my fridge (10 yrs old) went out last year. Cost me $110.00 to fix. Seems both warranties are too high.

We've had nothing but good experiences with Best Buy. Bought a dozen TVs there over the years, had the black tie warranty on all of them. Several times we had problems with them and a tech came out from Temple (70 miles away) and fixed it, and twice he told Best Buy to replace the TV - both 50 inchers - which they did with no problems. I've always been totally satisfied with them and the Black Tie warranty service. What struck me here was the incredible price difference between Lowe's and BB for what appears to be the same warranty: $149 vs. $599. I suspect the Lowe's service contractors aren't quite as professional as BB's, but that's just a guess.

We purchased our appliances and a zero turn from Lowe's when we built our new home 5 years ago and bought extended warranty on all items. To date, we have repaired the zero turn and refrigerator twice, ice maker, dish washer, and microwave all once. The repairmen and the mower shop were all great to work with. Well worth the money we paid for the warranties and I would do it again.

If you pay with your credit card, read the card's small print. Some credit cards will have a statement in there that they will double the original purchase warranty.

For the warranty price from best buy, you can buy a new fridge every 3.5 years.

Every appliance in my house came from Loews. I have had a number of issues that required a repairman out including the need for a new fridge. I received a check in two days for the new fridge, another check for 250 dollars for the food that I lost and got a huge discount at Loews when I told the store mgr of my problems.

I was told on my last trip in that service was even better now since they changed warranty companies.
