    Carpal tunnel surgery question

Having surgery next week to fix my carpal tunnel. He's going to do both hands at the same time. I've heard it's a quick and simple procedure. My question is what will my recovery look like. The day of the surgery will I be able to handle my own hygiene? Will I be good to resume light activity two days later? Will I be good to go for bow season?

If you do both hands, hygiene could pose to be more difficult. I had one hand done years ago. Recovery is pretty fast. Id talk to your Doctor, they will know. Procedure is getting better and better. Good luck!

recovery is different for each individual , if you smoke ... could be a loooooong delay

I had one client return to work the next day after bi-later CTS ... she was a dispatcher /switch board operator and had to constantly use her hands and fingers

I've had some clients complain and whine of pain 6 months later b/c they don't want to return to work

listen to your doctor and do NOT shoot your bow until given medical clearance

I had both hands done last year. There is no way I'd have both done at the same time. One of my hands, the worst one, went into shock and my hand was down for over two months. It was nine months before I got full use of my hand back.
Even without my particular problem I still wouldn't do both at the same time. Besides hygiene what if you need to support yourself with your hands, you can't. You can't drive. If you stumble you'll tear your stitches trying to catch yourself. Nope no way.
My other hand went normal. It was two weeks before I could use the hand and about six weeks before I could draw my bow. It hurt when I did it but it was tolerable.
If you do it, good luck.

i did both at the same time. not too big of a deal. getting dressed kinda sucked, but manageable. i was a single dad at the time so i didn't have a choice with it. drove to work the next day (carefully).

i'd advise two or three days off from work without driving, but some don't have a choice.

Okay so I liked a couple and disliked a couple of those responses but appreciate them all. The doctor said it's an orthoscopic procedure and said I'll be able to be back to light activity within a couple days. I'm hoping that's the case.

you'll be fine bro, seriously. my wife had the ortho one done, and hers was much easier than mine. i had mine done after hers, but mine was a bit worse so they had to slice me from palm to wrist. it honestly isn't that bad. here's a pic of mine the day after surgery....
