I Just Cut the Cable Cord..... For Good!

Well folks after reading here and other forums of people going to no cable I did my research and decided today was the day.

I had Comcast at 169.00 a month and realized it was garbage. So now I have an Apple TV and a Roku with a HD Antenna for local shows.

So the real question is: What will I do about hunting shows and espn? The answer NOTHING!

I feel good. I have an 8 and 11 year old they can watch kid stuff on netflix.

My internet did go up but I upgraded to the new Xfinity Blast for faster downloads.

I would like to say thanks to all the threads that were started in the past about cutting the cord.

I often think about doing this. But one thing is stopping me.

        Football.

If someone knows a way to cut cable and still somehow watch all the football channels, let me know please.

Welcome to the family! It's not as bad as it seems at first. Most major networks let you stream shows the day after if you miss it that night. If they don't you can usually find everything other places to watch the show. We have been cable free for about three years now. Only thing we miss watching are the razorback games.

So you went from 169/mo to about how much?

Whew! I was afraid to see another umbilical cord cutting, placenta eating thread!

Well Comcast kind of got me on the internet pricing. I have no other options because Uverse did not run to my house but my neighbors have it.

It would of been $55 + $8 for netflix and $8 for Hulu plus, so $71.00. But I upgraded speeds for my internet with the new Blast Service for $64 + $16, so $80 dollars a month. A little over 50% savings. It really was not the money per se but more the control over what is watched in my house and hopefully the future of entertainment and media.

BI Prime: There has been only negative ratings growth on broadcast and cable TV since September 2011, according to Citi Research.

hmmm...interesting thread. It seems like you gave up cable...but then upgraded online ways to watch...TV. What's the difference? I like the almost 50% savings in $$...but why not just lower the package you're in. We have all the channels possible through Direct TV and pay $192. But I'm fairly certain I could reduce quite a bit to get to the same price you're paying now...if not cheaper.

Just not sure why you would do this unless it was purely financial.

I did it about a year ago. I have my little brothers password for his cable so I can still watch espn and stuff if there is a game on I want to watch. Its so much cheaper to go this way. I have an apple TV in the living room and the kids room, and a Xbox in my room, all have Netflix and hulu, that's all you need.

Good for you. I could do fine with just keeping news stations and one or two movie channels. Don't have time for the rest of it.
