My AC has started acting up this weekend. When it tries to come on it just engages trying to come on and won't. A few minutes later it will try again and do the same thing. Then again a few minutes later it finally comes on and cools the house like normal. What could cause this.

If by engage you mean the outside unit not starting? If it is the compressor there could be bad starting components or some bad wiring causing a voltage drop on startup. We need more info -
Had similar symptoms. It was the capacitor to the compressor. Additionally, for older units, there is what is called a hard start kit that I guess has a capacitor on steroids to kick off the compressor.
Also, check your outdoor relay as sometimes the contactors get corroded.Comment
