    Axis deer question

I'm planning a trip to Keith John's place sometime between late Jan. and early spring 2015 with some friends and family. Will the Axis bucks have antlers that time of year and will their racks be full grown? I've read some mixed reviews on the subject and I'd much rather hear something from you guys that hunt Axis regularly.

From what I hear is that May-September is when the majority of them will be hard horned, could be wrong though

Generally speaking, Jan will not be a great time for Axis horns. The herd that I see varies from critter to critter, but they all seem to drop em between thanksgiving and the new year

They are a year round antler growth ive seen several that are broke off and fully grown on my ranch in leakey, they grow based off when theyre born so each one has a different cycle.

There will always be some in hard horn.
Typically, most have hard horns in the summer months, like Wendell said, May thru Sept.

Year round as stated above. Some will be bald, some in velvet and some hard horned.

Yep, we have 3 distinct groupings on our place. Most are hard-horned Late May thru Sept., then some have a cycle very much the same as the whitetailed deer, yet a few start shedding velvet in late Dec./Jan... Seems our biggest ones though are the summer bucks.

Takes some gettin' used to to go out for a work weekend in June/July and find fresh rubs... except some of them look more like elk rubs instead of deer...

Seeing a lot of fresh axis rubs right now. I also have heard a lot of bucks roaring and watched 2 bucks fighting in Kendall County Sunday morning.

I've seen hard horns year round at my dad's near Fredericksburg. I killed a big one, with hard horns on Dec 22 last year. He's got them roaring at his house right now though.

                      Ours generally shed around thanksgiving.
