Are Spikes Inferior?

A great age old debate! Bottom line is this, there is plenty of time... why would you shoot a spike at 1 1/2 vs giving him an opportunity. If your managing everything correctly then the majority of your breeding is being done at the 4 1/2 YO age class and above. I never understood what the rush was.

We don't shoot spikes There are several good programs that will say shoot spikes. Both have successful programs. Have we proved anything?

To me, the argument of shooting spikes is an excuse to kill something.... About like culling.

Kinda hard to figure out what brought scores up when you factor in multiple variables (killing spikes, supplemental feed, etc). Wouldn't you have to keep all things equal and only change one variable at a time to see which one actually worked?

Kinda like you have a gun that won't group well, so you get a new scope and a new stock, viola, it's a tack driver. Well what was the cure? The stock or the scope? No way to tell when you installed them both at the same time.

That's my uneducated opinion.
