So ya'll convinced me to go with with Mac Books...

Now which one for my son? All he needs it for is school work, interweb, pics, music, videos, ect? Plan on buying Office for Mac so he can do all his school work on it. Can he get by with the Macbook Air? We are not computer folks and we don't mess with them for "fun". The main reason we have decided to go with the Mac is because of the all the Windows crap we always have to mess with.

Macbook Air would be a great choice. Look at getting one of the refurbished models. comes with a 1 year warranty standard. My wife has been using one for school for 2 years.

Also instead of buying office for MAC, get Parallels and Win 7, and regular office. Compatibility is sometimes flaky with office for MAC.

Is he high school or college? Most colleges have a deal that you can buy software really cheap once he's enrolled.

I've never had a compatibility problem with office for Mac. I use it a lot.

Air will be good. And take advantage of the student discount on Apple products.
If he takes the time to learn a little bit about the differences betweek Windows and Mac Operating systems, he will love it.
Apple systems are just so much more user friendly.

School discount is the way to go. I bought an Air for my oldest last year and a Pro for my youngest this year. You really can't go wrong with either. The Pros have gotten significantly thinner and lighter over the last year. Maybe just go with the price performer? And I agree with the student sw discount. Just paid $10 for Office and on top of the student hw discount, they throw in $100 credit for apps.
