    anahuac?

im headed down there for the next 3 days to visit some of my wifes family. Ive never been down there and would love to do some fishing they live on the water, but there not the fishing type. Would my bass boat be of any use? and are the bass or catfishing any good?

The water is often shallow. Lots of trout and redfish out there on the bayfront. Watch the tide. Run out to the Jacks pocket cut or over to the HL@P discharge with fresh shrimp. Something will bite.

You might also run up the river to the loc with those shrimp and catch a catfish or black drum.

If the pumps are running at Big Hog Bayou you can catch some cats in Lake Anahuac. If you are looking for Trout hit the wells out of Double Bayou (High Island) in Trinity Bay. If the tide is out you don't want to launch at Fort Anahuac.

It's oak island not high island that he is talking about. Birds are starting to work pretty good. The hl & p spillway has been really slow lately with lots of under size reds and small croaker. The bay is loaded with shad right now.

I appreciate all the info guys after talking to some people ill probly leave the boat because of the salt water. So if anybody could guide me in the right direction on bank or pier spots id appreciate it. Ive never fished salt water so kinda excited to try it out

YEARS ago there was a pump station at the end of the main drag in town. It had lights and we would bowfish for gar at night and people banked fished.

Is that place still in operation and is is still OK to fish there?

The pump station is still in operation. Folks cast net for shad and at times shrimp there. Not sure about fishing.

txbowhunter 08. Find your way to the very end of the Fort Anahuac boat ramp/park road. It dead ends at a metal barrier on a long peninsula. Wade off that at daylight with chartreuese bass assassins on a 1/8 jighead. You might catch a flounder or trout or redfish. Not guaranteed but usually worth the wade.
