Got my red DRT's in last week, finally had a chance to shoot them. Very nice heads, and I went with the single bevel heads in red. After looking them over, reading the note from the owners, and figuring out where my sticker was going to be put I went to shooting. They fly good and I didn't have any tuning issues which I was pretty surprised about. Last time I shot a big fixed blade single bevel I had to do quite a bit of tuning to get them to shoot right, once tuned they were fine but I think I spent about 2 hours getting them lined out. Those were Eclipse Werewolf Evolution's.
I usually shoot Rage or Slick Trick Grizz Tricks 100 grain. The DRT's are impacting about 1/2" to 3/4" higher than my field points and slick tricks at 20 yards. 1.5" higher at 30, 2.5" higher at 40. Im thinking they might be a little lighter than 100 without the additional 25 grain weight but I can't find my scale.
They are consistently impacting just a little higher than the slick tricks and field points so I dont think it is a tuning problem, they are all dead on up and down. After shooting out to 40 yards I took a little break and did one strength test.
These things are shooting through my block target and sticking out about a foot, the slick tricks are barely breaking the back of the block unless I hit a soft spot. I put my block on a metal folding chair and shot the DRT, it went through the block, the back of the metal chair and about 2" through that before stopping. The penetration is pretty darn good on these things. After getting the head out I looked it over, knocked a little bit of the red teflon coating off but not all of it and no bends or anything like that on the head. Held up very well. Shot it again and impacted just the same as always. I'm going to have to torture one of these things too see what they can hold up to, but the aren't weak at all, thats for sure.
After being mad I couldn't find a grain scale I decided to see how these shot with the 25 grain weight on them. Basically the same as before but low. I was 1.25" low @ 20, 2.5" @ 30, 4" @ 40. All still stringing strait up and down as before, until the 40 yard target, I was consistently 1" left at 40 yards with the head at 125 grain, so I might have too much shaft flex at 125 grain.
Overall I'm very pleased with these things and can't wait to run them through some pigs and see what the wound channel looks like.
I didn't bring my camera because I was still asleep apparently but I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow or Friday and post them.
