    CDL oilfield drivers

What do you do (frac, cement, wireline, coiled tubing, crude hauler etc), who do you work for, what's your schedule/hours, and what's your monthly take home pay? Feel free to leave out your employer or any other details. Just trying to figure out whether or not I should go to a driving school. Getting a little tired of my lab position. Would like to stay with my company and would be willing to eat the cost of school to get a field position.

Been thinking of this as well. I've already got my CDL just trying to decide myself. Subscribed.

Getting ur CDL is something that is a great choice there are 1000's of jobs that pay very well just for having it....I worked for Halliburton 14 yrs and its was great pay and great benifits,I havent driven a truck in the last 6 yrs but all i can say if u have the oppertunity to get the CDL get it!

I would make 80-90k when with halliburton and that was 4 yrs ago right now guys are making 100-130k and with no experience and first time drivers in frac, but If any of them guys wanna switch jobs like to go to coil, transport driver, rigs, hot shots, etc they wont have any problem getting hired due to having their CDL,having it goes a long ways believe me partner!

You might have to wait a day or two for any of the frac, cement, coiled tubing or wireline guys to get in from the field, they don't let them come to town very often. I can't give you specifics but our guys cdl plus equip. Operator are making from $18 up to $25 p/hr depending on experience and years of service, and work 50-70 hrs p/week.

Our guys up here in OK working 80-100 hrs wk at $18-$22 hr. time n 1/2 after 40. Hotels paid for by employer and $35 a day per diem. Working on frac site so very little actual driving. To location 1st day of job and back to yard at end of job, several days later. Time offs hard to get right now. Busy, busy.

Though cdl drivers had to log. How do you work that many hours.

Don't have cdl, but generally speaking you log driving only hours, then your out of the truck operating equip., for X amount of hours, then you drive truck back to yard. Like any other gov. System there's a book about 18" thick and weighs 312 lbs. that covers everything.

I took the first step today. Told my supervisor and folks over at HR about what I would like to do. Just waiting to hear back now. Also went over to OC (odessa college) and talked to the lady that runs the CDL training course. It's offered every four weeks. August 18th is the start date for the next class.

Get your HAZMAT and Tanker endorsements while you're at it.

Supervisor gave me the okay. Just a matter of filling out paperwork and paying for the class. I won't have much of a life for the four weeks I'm enrolled. I'll be working from midnight until 6:00 am in the lab and going to class from 7:00-4:00 PM, but it'll all be worth it if I can transfer to the eagle ford and get settled in around San Antonio.
