    Question for LEO's

I have a question. Pre CHL days, I always received tickets. Since having the CHL the last 16+ years (I went 2 years in there I didn't have one) no tickets. My question, is there an aspect of having the CHL, knowing I've been thru the background check, that eases the officers persona and they don't give tickets?

FYI, I was pulled over today for 64 in a 60 and he "thought" my window tint was too dark. Resulting in a verbal warning.

Anyone else seem to experience this?

I believe they like the fact we are legally carrying and will give us a break because of it. After all, the gun carrying citizens that do it the legal way are nothing but a good role model in their eyes. Or at least that's my thinking on it.

Most of the CHL holders I stopped always seemed like 'my kinda people' resulting in no paper. When I say 'my kinda people' I mean level headed, outdoors loving, courteous folks that I could sit and drink a beer with. Not the "why did you stop me Im not consenting to crap' crowd. I wasnt much of a ticket writer though, not even on wrecks. After all warnings used less paper and printed faster

As for your tint, front windows cant be anything over 20%, back can be as dark as you want. Last I heard requires a tint meter which in 15 years................ Ive never even seen one

I don't think you will find a blanket answer for this one as each LEO is different.

For example my wife got pulled over for no front license plate.

She showed her CHL and still got a ticket for it.

I've read many times of scenarios like yours though.

Pretty sure they got rid of the front plate requirement

I have been pulled over by both kinds of leo. I was even asked to step out of the truck and she disarmed me.

Nope, its still valid. You have to have one
DPS pulled me over a few months back while I was driving my civic (commuter car) to work. It didnt come from the factory with mounting holes in the front so Ive never installed it. The LP sits on my dash now

Front LP definetly is required, but is it a violation that requires a citation? I guess it's up to officer and how he sees it.

I did a little reading....it wasnt then it was now it says

Sec. 504.943. OPERATION OF VEHICLE WITHOUT LICENSE PLATE. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b), a person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway, during a registration period, a motor vehicle that does not display two license plates that:
                  (1) have been assigned by the department for the period; and
                  (2) comply with department rules regarding the placement of license plates.
                  (b) A person commits an offense if the person operates on a public highway during a registration period a road tractor, motorcycle, trailer, or semitrailer that does not display a license plate that:
                  (1) has been assigned by the department for the period; and
                  (2) complies with department rules regarding the placement of license plates.
                  (c) This section does not apply to a dealer operating a vehicle as provided by law.
                  (d) A court may dismiss a charge brought under Subsection (a)(1) if the defendant:
                  (1) remedies the defect before the defendant's first court appearance; and
                  (2) pays an administrative fee not to exceed $10.

Kicker is it says two but doesnt say where. If you go to the placement statute it gives the old law that was re-wrote. It seems I was taking an update and the consensus was it wasnt worth getting in trouble over such a gray area in PC for a stop.

                  Either way thats another thread

Its 25% +/- 2%. Not sure if it changed since you were LEO or what, but I just went through my state inspection exam and it is now 25% on the front windows.

My inspection guy doesn't check tint levels, which is why Ive been using the same guy for 10 years

Like I said Ive never seen a tint meter so there never was/is any point in me stopping for it. Plenty easy to find something else to stop for

Most of my traffic stops of CHL holders result in verbal warnings.

Well Rusty, if you would not have been exceeding that speed limit like a missile flying through the air, you would not have gotten stopped. LoL.....
