I called the place that sells them near Austin a few weeks ago. Asked him about maintenance he said only thing is the motors burn out after about 300 hours. Thats a lot of hours. Heck Id probably crash it before that. Still ya gotta love em...way to much fun. I wanted to take them to Montana and Alaska. I bet they are cool in the mountains.

I did see this about what some people are doing about drones.

There are already quite a few regulations concerning how you can fly them to include the use of first person video, altitude, recording video, etc. It's a shame the guv'ment has to regulate every aspect of life.

Yep, you can even use them with night vision cameras to track the pigs down at night

I think the vision plus takes. Enter pics because of the use of raw and HDR. The gopro does do better video though and some decent pictures.

So long as you don't "incidentally" film any property you don't own. The law is pretty harsh but unenforceable I think.

I think its ridiculous but the images in this post are each an offence under Texas law.

really...dang. We are sure regulated. Seems interesting the government can survey us no question asked.

Yup. That was the good intention of the Texas law to actually protect us from unwanted drone surveillance but the overreach affects us too with our toys.

Even if you have permission from the landowners? We spoke with all the landowners in the pictures and actually you can see them standing in the front yard of the main house in the picture. The pictures of the acreage is my property so I didn't think there would be any legal issues.

It's actually pretty easy to control, the gps system keeps everything under control. If you start getting out of control with it or the wind starts blowing it to much the gps control system will take over. Also, you set the "home" position before it takes off and if it loses radio control or the battery gets low it brings itself back to the "home" position that you set as a waypoint. It is a pretty sophisticated machine.

I like the idea of these things...but struggle with the real world application once I spent the $1k to get it. I mean sure, I could fly around and look at stuff...but don't you think that would get old after a while? I'm not in the business of making youtube videos for people to look at the river I filmed or the woods....besides, those are already out there.

again, I like these things...but if I think long term, I could see it sitting in the attic after a few uses.

not to mention now you have a bunch of rednecks who are going to be taking shots at it because GOD FORBID I flew over their land....haha....just don't know.
