    Correctional Officers

I am thinking about applying for a correctional officer at the Kyle Texas correction facility. Is there anything I should know before applying? Is this a good job? Thanks!

I can't find anything about how it pays. Does anyone know?

From my understanding those GEO prisons dont pay much. I think it's worse than the state pays and the state pays squat. If you wanna go corrections look at Hays County. Even better would be Travis County. Hope this helps.

The only advice I can give you is don't be a azz, I'm some cases it's fine. But treat people like you would want to be treated.

Look at going to APD. Not corrections but you get to work the street and the pay scale there is pretty good from I know.

Saw a cute blonde in Sterling City on Sunday that had on a Big Spring Correction Officer uniform. Has nothing to do with the OP, but hey, I had to tell someone!!!

The only reason I was looking into going into corrections is because I am 19. Otherwise I would apply for the police academy.

I have known a few corrections officers and they all HATED it.

I'm sure they might well have been the exceptions.

Dang, so was I. Sterling is growing with all the oil field work.
DQ was the only place to eat but we didn't want to cook out at the ranch. Sure was hot filling feeders Saturday.

We went to DQ also. I feel bad for the employees....they get pretty busy. I was sad Daniella's was closed for the night.

Brysdad is correct Kyle is a private prison ran by GEO corporation, pay is less because it is a private corporation. If you don't mind a drive, look at the gatesville area, they have a number of state units there, mostly female and one male max security 2250 capacity. The only problem with applying to work in prisons is the oil field business is so good. Staffing is short handed and they do offer pay incentives to go where they need you, ex. Beaumont, Beeville, Huntsville, Amarillo, etc. I did 29 1/2 there and Kyle was in my region. Pm if you need help.
