Mesquite...Remedy appears to be working, now what?

I sprayed some Mesquite and Honey Locust over the 4th of July weekend. I went back yesterday to do some work and the tree's have begun the process of dying. I've heard to let them have a full 12 months before removal. When that time comes, what is the best way to remove the dead trees and bushes???

I was wondering how long the need to stand. I did the same and they're dead for sure.

A chainsaw will work for removal.

            Cut into 18" pieces,

I spent a chunk of a summer spraying with diesel and remedy, basal spray, and got like a 50% kill....

Then another summer, I upped my game and did a foliage spray with a nasty concoction that my boss at the time worked up. I killed everything. I killed mesquites that only got part of the spray (I was cleaning up roads). It was AWESOME!!

I would chainsaw the tops, and do something to remove the stumps.

Let them stand for at least 9 months. Just because the tops are dead doesn't mean it's a complete kill. Mesquites are tough plants, better be safe than sorry..

What canny said ^^^. If you cut them too early, they will come back. You can tell they are ready to cut when there is sawdust outside the trunks from mesquite worms or carpenter ants.

I just dug down 8" and cut the tree root off 2 that I sprayed last year. The first one, the root just below the surface, curled in a circle before coming out of the ground. The other one tripled in size in a bulge about 8" down, so I dug it deeper to get it out. The roots are generally much bigger than the trunks.

A little mesquite trivia - did you know that a mesquite tree will produce more seeds in a drought in case it dies the species lives? In heavy rain years, the trees produce less seeds. Kinda' backwards, but with heavy rain, the tree doesn't want competition for drought periods.

The bushes will usually snap off at the ground when you push them after a few months if you killed them.
Most of the time, the smaller trees will fall under their own weight after a few months if you killed them.
I've never sprayed a large tree, so I have no experience with that, but I would saw it off at or below the ground level, then spray the stump with Remedy/diesel if it still looks green inside.

As others have said, if you cut it too soon, it will sprout back from the root.

Our neighbor sprayed his with a crop dusting plane last year, evidently the wind was wrong or the crop duster did not have the correct property lines, we have about 30 acres of them that have died, not real happy about it either, was where quite a few deer stayed, oh well, what can you do ?
