    spin test?

i have heard some guys talking about spin testing all of their BH's and i was just wondering how dos one do this and what does one need to do this thanks guys

The cheap way is to make a "V" in opposite ends of a shoe box (or other cardboard box short enough to allow the arrow to rest on it without touching tip or fletching).

Place a Broad head tipped arrow in the "V", point the BH at an unmovable dot- almost touching. Then spin the arrow slowly to see if the head/ insert in the arrow is true. If the point of the Bh floats around or draws a circle around the dot then the insert is in crooked or the BH is bent.

Some people can pull this off by spinning the BH tipped arrow in the palm of their hand and looking for/ seeing a wobble.

The more expensive way is to buy a commercial spinner and doing the same as above.

The head should be on an arrow to spin check it. If it wobbles in one, screw it onto another to rule out a crooked insert.

I use a arrow spinner. For the one's that wobble, this little tool - the "Arrow Squaring Device" from G5 works great. It quickly squares the inset to the shaft - no more wobble

Here's what one looks like, it's $38 at Cabelas.

My elk partner is fanatical about that. I don't worry about it. I have enough other contributions to inaccuracy that I don't worry about it.

Thanks but if a broadhead is bent from the factory squaring flush the ends of a shaft wont help it.
Gotta tweak the broadhead or dump it

Good point Tink - that tool only helps if the insert is the problem. If the broadhead is bent, a perfectly square insert makes no difference.

DaveC, that is a great idea! I had not heard of that method, inexpensive and efficient!

I bought one of the arrow spinners. Check all my BH/arrow combos before season starts.

I spin it in my hand. sometimes I draw blood. If I can't feel it spin, then it's ready to go. If it has a little tiney wobble, I shoot hogs with it. If I can't get an arrow to match a broadhead, it carries a field point. With the Maximas, 10 or 11 of every dozen are great spinners and kill deer regularly.
