Got first AR. Need help with optics

Does anyone have or know someone who has the Burris Fullfield TAC30 scope with the Fastfire lll holographic on top (came in a package deal at Cabelas for $500). Is it a good starter set or should I go with something different. Gun will be used for pig, yotes, varmints.

I have used the Tac30 and the MTAC for years. Its a great all around optic. I have used it in 3 gun and to hunt pigs. I would skip buying the Fastfire to go with it. Its difficult to sight thru because you completely lose your cheek weld. Its also kind of redundant since you have 1x illuminated in the Tac30 already.

Buy with confidence. Burris makes good stuff. Check the prices on OpticsPlanet as well. They usually have it a lil cheaper as well as being able to skip paying shipping and tax.

That's probably a great starter set for your intended use. Whether it's the optimal one will depend on you and the scenarios you encounter. For predator control work I use both scopes and red dots - it depends on what my setup is. If I'm hunting a small clearing or a narrow creek bottom, I'll grab a rifle with a red dot, with a 3x magnifier that can flip out of the way. If I'm expecting a shot over 80-100, I'm for sure grabbing a scoped rifle. If you can learn to swap between the scope and the fastfire, it may prove to be a perfect setup. I've toyed with the idea of trying that configuration.

You can, certainly, buy a higher quality scope but whether there's a significant practical value, TO YOU, is questionable. Depending on your particular rifle's capability and your own ability, a high-end optic may be overkill. I think you're doing right thing by starting out with what you have. Once you've spent some time hunting with it you'll find out whether it's appropriate or whether you need something different.

        Enjoy your new setup!
