    Axis Hide Tanning

Maybe getting a head of myself but I'm going on an Axis Doe hunt this fall and was interested in Tanning the Hide (Rug or Wall type Display)If the colors are nice.

Going to do some pricing locally but would like to know an average price and If anyone would recommend a San Antonio Area Taxidermist...

I forgot they name of it but there is a place in the old union stockyards. I think it's like the peanut company or something? Anyway. I hear they do great work. I have two hides in my freezer I need to take them.

We have used North Texas Tannery in Denton, very reasonable and do good work.

Took mine to Bar S in floresville. Paid $135 and waited about 4 months to get it back, love the hide and the people were very pleasant to do business with.

X2 we have done about 20 axis hides with them and no complaints! Very cheap and great quality! Turn around time isn't the fastest but that's normal and the time factor isn't a concern for me. I think I pay around $40 a hide and I send them a handful each year.

Bar S in Floresville/Stockdale. I could of sworn it was $125 but it may have been $135 as stated above. They still ship them out but the turnaround was around 2 months.

Do you ship them? If you do how do you ship them? Don't they have to stay frozen?

Yes I ship them. I pay for shipping both ways and use dry ice in an insulated cheap styrofoam ice chest and then pack that in a cardboard box. I don't ship any during the summer of course, usually in the early spring. I just do normal UPS ground which gets there the next day. I have them all in one ball frozen in the freezer and then pack them with dry ice and ship. Its still frozen when they receive it. Great people to deal with! I would highly recommend them.
