    Hunting Saskatchewan

Just booked a hunt with Safari River for the end of November. If you have hunted there any tips or gear I need to take?

WARM clothes, big backpack or duffel bag. Doesn't have to be high tech, just need storage with handles and shoulder strap. You will want to carry a lot of your warm clothes in with you and put them on at the stand, plus lunch, binoculars, book etc...If it's a typical nut hut hunt it's a LONG day in cold temps.

Don't get carried away on custom light trigger if rifle hunting. Cold temps/steel shrinkage can make that fancy rifle unsafe/unusable.

x2 on what CC said. Also, make SURE you have the right boots/sock combo. If you walk any distance to the stand, I'd recommend two boots/socks. One for the walk, another for sitting in the stand. Once your feet gets cold, it makes for a looong day.

i vote for the old school pac boots with the removable felt liners for sitting and take an extra set of liners. Change the liners every night and let the used set dry out completely in camp before using them again.

Sweat in your clothes and boots from the walk in is your enemy. It will turn into ice as you sit and make you miserable. I would actually strip down to my long johns and boots to walk in with -40 temperatures.

It is literally the coldest place I have ever hunted....I went about 6 years ago....I still remember it well enough to refrain from booking another hunt there. I thought I was prepared.....and, was not......It is very , very, cold. But, the deer size is probably as large as you will ever see in a whitetail.

Those little hand warmer packes work well. They have some that stick to the top of your sock. Saved my feet! And i found if i kept a little crown in my 7 up bottle it wouldnt freeze up on stand lol
