    Polaris Ranger Midsize Question

    Hey GS,

I am in the market for my first side by side and I am very interested in the polaris ranger midsize lineup. I have it narrowed down to the 400 or the 570, but that is an entirely different discussion.

The main selling point to me for a midsize ranger is the claim that it will fit in the bed of a full size pickup. I have done lots of research all over the internet and come up with different answers from everywhere.

My question is this: The width of the midsize model rangers is listed at 56" wide, and after measuring between the wheel wells of my pickup it is 50". But in some videos I've seen on the net it doesnt look like the ranger has to drive up and over the wheel wells to fit. I have a toolbox in my truck, and I don't want the ranger to go up and over the wheel wells, then fall off the other side and smash into my toolbox. If the ranger will not fit in between the wheel wells I have been trying to figure out plans for some type of platform to in front of the wheel wells that fits flush with the top so the front of the ranger will not have to 'fall off' the back of the wheel wells.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

If I have to drive it up and over the wheel wells, this is what I was thinking of making up. Taking some 2x10s on end and cutting them down to fit under the toolbox and matching the curve of the wheel well and decking the top of them with 1" ply.

    Any better ideas are appreciated.

I can't speak about putting it in a truck, but buy the 570. The new 570 motor will run with the 800's. I love mine.

Up in the air about 400 vs 570, everyone I've talked to says the 400 has plenty of cojones. I'm trying to justify the extra 2 thousand bucks to go up to the 570 just to gain a little quickness and fuel injection.

Mainly curious about the size and whether or not I can haul this thing around in my pickup.

        Anyone else?

I've had the 400 for 3 yrs and it has handled everything I've thrown at it. I use a trailer but am following since I am considering moving up to a 1 ton truck and getting a camper which would cause me to use the truck bed as an option for the polaris

I have a 400 and love it I really haven't found anything it cant do and it gets around in some really tight places. And if you get it stuck it dosnt take a tractor to pull it out. If you have any more questions PM me.

                Can't say much about a 400 vs. a 570.

We used to own a full size 500 Ranger. Not once did we ever feel like it lacked power. We have an 800 now and all it does is drink more gas.

Just my opinion, but loading a UTV into a truck bed will get old pretty fast. You will also need some good ramps. Your best bet is to find a 5 x 10 utility trailer. You also get the added bonus of having more area to hall corn, feeders, other supplies, etc.

I have the mid size 800 and love it that thing is a beast and will go absulity anywhere and everywhere you wanna go. As far as putting it in the bed of the truck I haven't tried yet I personally don't think it will fit. Best purchase I ever made

Ild never put on in the bed of a truck, way to sketchy ild invest in a 5/700$ 10ft trailer with folding ramps

I have a 400 with 26" Kenda Executioner MTs and it has plenty of power turning them in the mud while pulling my utility trailer. Mine won't fit in my truck due to the spacers I have on my rims. A buddy of mine used to haul his 400 in his truck.

IF the rear tires sit on the tailgate when it is in the bed of the truck, there is no way I would trust the tailgate straps to support that kinda weight driving down the road. If youll be able to shut the tailgate, that is a different story.

My 400's and 570's just fit on 5x10 trailer, can not imagine loading in and out of the truck, much less driving around with 1300 + lb of top heavy load. Good luck on the purchase and IMO 400 cc is plenty. Most of my machines have 3000 + miles of west Texas craziness. My only complaint on these are the stock tires and plastic skip plates. I have Put Surefoot tires and alumni skip plats.

I would recommend the 570. The 400 can pop a hose to its oil tank and dump all its oil onto the ground. This happened while spot lighting. engine with no oil is a horrible sound.

They do fit but are very top heavy and for long trips would suck
