    What is your...

What is your most negative/painful/scary adventure when hunting or doing work out at the lease or ranch? We have all done something stupid or had a scary moment hunting. I know for me this past saturday I was out filling feeders and there was a branch in the road that I was going to get out of my truck and move. Well as I was halfway out the truck I started to step by the branch and then I felt my truck keep moving, I was trying to untangle my foot from the branch and I barely got my foot out and hopped back into my truck. Scared me to death, thought I was going to snap my foot off!! And I was only about 30 feet from a cliff so if I would have fell down my truck would have been absolutely wrecked. Really glad that my truck and I escaped all injuries! So lets hear yalls scary moments, it can be hunting or anything related. Pictures are welcomed!

About 15years ago - I went to my Archer county lease by myself during bow season. I climbed up my screw in steps to my strap on stand at about 20 feet. Holding on to a branch with one hand I made that tricky first step onto the platform and it gave way and fell to the ground. ( I think a squirrel or something chewed the strap) I was hanging there with one hand but somehow was able to hug the tree and work my way back down. I remember sitting at the base of the tree and shaking like a leaf. I had two young kids at home and I had this vision of one pushing my wheelchair while the other held my drool cup. Still scares me to think about it

Lifting a 20 foot tower stand when strap broke. Stand fell and the corner hit me in the mouth on the way to my chest. Missed the top of my head by an inch or two. When it happened I also thought it fell on top of my friends. I was the only one hit and that is the closest I've ever came to death. Still makes me sick to think about it.

The bruise on my chest was the size of a basket ball

My oldest son was only 14, he's 32 now...we were at the lease in Sterling City. The stand we were hunting was about 12' tall. I was climbing down the ladder, missed the 2nd or 3rd step and fell. I hit on my side, missed a BIG prickly pare thank the Lord. I broke my right wrist...hurt so dam bad I threw up right in front of my boy. He drove us back to camp, ice, anything I could find to deaden the pain. Next morning he drove us back to Lubbock and I met my hunting buddy/physician at the ER. I was much younger then and if it happened now....dead meat!

That is horrible. I hope everything turned out okay for you. I can't imagine having to go through that.

I was around 8 and I was in the stand with my mom. A single wasp was buzzing around, so she decided to smash it against the wall. Well she did and then a ton of wasps came pouring out from everywhere. She grabs me, puts me on the ladder then lowers me with one hand to the ground with a death grip on my hoodie. She gets out about 4 seconds later - neither of us stung.

Turkey hunting outside Sonora, around 2007ish.

The "urge" hit me and I realized I didn't have any kind of paper.

I didn't need those socks after all.

I have 2. Once I was bow hunting in 81 or 82 and I had climbed into a tree that I hunted all the time. I just stood a branch about 12 foot up. I had bow in hand with an arrow nocked. About 20 minutes into my hunt, I hear snap and down I go. All I could think was to at least throw my bow out away from me. I landed on the back of my heels and then my back. I laid there stunned and dazed for quite awhile. I can not I got out of that one unfazed.

Second time was about 8 years ago. I had pulled the truck up to a feeder to check it. I was standing under it reaching up to make some adjustments. I had my back to the truck which was literally about 3 ft from me. Next thing I know Im being hit by the truck and the feeder is being pushed over as well. Luckily one of the feeder legs wedged into my ranch hand bumper and stopped the truck's forward progress after a few feet. That one haunts me still when I think about it. I mean I had nowhere but down to go because of the feeder and the pipe legs. I guarantee you, I double check every time I get out of my truck anymore to make sure it is in Park.

My wife was mowing with our zero turn mower under a large live oak tree this week. She ducked under a low hanging branch but the ROPS caught the branch causing the mower to wheelie shutting the mower off. But the the branch rebounded slapping her in the back of the head. Ended up with a long splinter stuck into her scalp and bruises all over her head and shoulders. Ended up with a trip to the ER in Kerrville to pull the splinter out. I had to pull the branch back away from her head and roll bar for her to duck under and crawl off the mower.

There is a thread about this that is really long...

I'm lazy or I'd search for it.
