    # of deer stands

How many setups are you going to get ready for this upcoming season?

I find myself wanting to have a stand over my summer food plot, over a field edge near by, over some mock scrapes deep in the woods, over a natural funnel with some oats planted near by. Oh, and duh my feeder.

I keep thinking I need to simplify. Hunt over food early and late, and over scrapes during rut. I need 2 stands for each, one for a south wind and one for a north wind. So 4 stands, should be fine. I am only hunting weekends, otherwise I might end up with 20 stands, .

So is anyone else contemplating just how many stands to set up?

I don't mind putting up multiple setups, it can't hurt. It's not like a lockon hanging in a tree is going to spook deer away even if you don't hunt it all year.

We will have 13 on 2200 acres by season. Lots of work to keep everything full and ready.

I feel your pain, I have 4 stands on 50 acres, my saving grace is property is narrow and deep and there is a nice elevation change almost at each stand so it's like a whole new area, or at least that is what I tell myself, gotta get those Krivoman blinds in soon. Popups are taking a beating this past year.

I just have one setup this year. One corn spinner with two stands and a third in the works. I have a double, 20' high, and 20 yards to the North. The other is 18' up a tree, 21 yards to the South. I am putting together a 6'x6'x8' platform for my popup when it is raining that will be placed 25 yards away tucked in the tree line to the West.

Work all summer, get about 4 or 5 great setups. Wake up opening morning.... crap which one do I go to.... sit there for an hour...hmmm I chose wrong.... It happens every year.

Love the puzzle though, and it's part of the challenge. Have to be with in 30 yards of a big buck, in daylight, undetected. It takes skill.

Yes sir, the cameras always show me I was at the wrong one, never fails.

We are allowed 2 a piece on our place but my longtime hunting buddy and I treat ours as a group of 4 with each other getting first hunting choice of the two we pay to keep up.

In West Texas, hunting the wind is pretty much useless to us since the deer will come up from all directions ....so most of us hunt ground blinds with one blind per set ....

I always find myself wanting to build more set-ups each year than I probably really need. Right now I have about 15 bow set-ups and 5 rifle stands. Most years I will not even hunt all of them just due to time or the fact that they are just not that hot some years. A few are over feeders and a lot are within a couple hundred yards. The rest are over oak trees or scrapes. They do require a lot of maintenance, I'm already behind on that this year too. I need to re-grease, paint, replace straps, trim limbs and re-brush in a pretty good amount of stands asap before the summers over. Times running out!

More than I will be able to hunt.

I personally have 14 right now. Am currently redoing a couple of them. When you hunt almost every day of the season it takes a lot of stands to keep from getting bored.

This is exactly the way me and my compadre do it on our place. Between the two of us on 12,000 acres we share 6 set ups and two top drives. We typically decide the night before where we are going to hunt. We share corn as well. We have a grain bank and buy in bulk and split cost between us. works out great.

I have 16 "stands", tripods ,pop ups, hang ons, and ladders; 4 feeders with access to 4 more. That is my resources. I will probably only have 5 feeders running and 10 or 12 stands. Some of my feeders will have two stands on them for different wind conditions and I'll have a few stands on pinch points and trails.

We just got back from last weekend. We have three right now on 111 acres. Just got the place last July and there was nothing there. Now have it set up pretty good. It is a lot of work. We are South of Rocksprings. Find the new bow stand. Has anyone noticed how bad the gnats are this year?
