    New deer to me

Anybody here heard of a Pierre David Deer. My Daughter and I were taking a drive in the hill country where it's high fence on both sides of the road. We do that while we're on vacation every year on the Frio. We saw some deer that just looked old to me with somewhat random horn gowth. She posted a pic on facebook and someone responded that they were Pierre David Deer and sure enough, she googled it and found a pic that looked like what we saw. Not sure I'd want to pay exotic fees to hunt them. They're kind of ugly.

Yep, they are pretty common, and kinda ugly too.

They are some strange looking deer.

I think they are pretty cool. Awesome story about how the species was saved too.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I wouldn't say they're "pretty common".
            I'd consider axis common.
            I'd consider fallow pretty common.
I'd say Pierre Davids are somewhat rare, but they are "pretty pricey".

The ones I saw looked like this one but were totally grey and looked almost mangy(don't know how to spell mangy)

I think they are very unique and pretty cool. A very interesting conservation story. They likely would not exist without the hunting market.
