    AC Question

My house has a slab floor and the drain line off of my AC is currently pumped up in the attic and out of the eave of my house to the ground via a clear plastic hose. It passes right by the 3" PVC drain vent pipe in the attic. Is it alright to drill a hole in the vent pipe and insert the AC drain line in it instead of having it go outside on the ground? Has anyone done this before.
    Thanks

It isn't recommended but will work just fine. Drill a hole, stick several inches minimum into the hole, seal it in with silicone or something.

It goes outside so you can see if it plugs up and stops dripping. If it's in a drain and plugs up, you get to replace sheetrock

anyone know why my A/c would blow super cold morning noon and night but not in the heat of the afternoon? Ive checked and its not freezing up outside. Filter is clean, inside unit is new. Outside unit is fairly new model good size.

It wouldn't be a code violation as long as you have a secondary condensation drain as well. I think code says you have to have 2 out of 3 of the following secondary drain methods: 1. secondary condensation drain pan. 2. drain line from pan to outside, typically draining above a window or door. 3. electronic shutoff attached to the drain pan, i.e condensation backs up into drain pan and touches shutoff, turning off the unit.

In residential new construction these days, very rarely will you see a primary condensation drain line that goes outside.

Give "airehead", Ron Ball a shout. He's the owner/operator of Arthurs Air Conditioning in Georgetown and a really good guy. Not to mention a TBH'r.

Only thing I would do is go to 3/8" copper tubing instead of the clear plastic so that tubing doesn't form cracks, kinks or animals chew through it. And then when the pump goes off it squirts in the attic.

If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Don't really know where your at and how dry it is there. I would run it down the the ground a drain it into a rock pit so you don't have any surface water, or water build up around the slab to invite termites.

If it's a pump, it should have a secondary float to shut off the ac incase pump fails to work. Make sure it's hooked up and functioning properly.

I would assume that you suffer from low freon or a dirty outdoor coil, or both

As it heats up in the afternoons, you loose capacity anyway, at night it is able to catch up. You might have to remove fan or top section and wash coil from the inside out to back wash dust and particles.

Yes and strap it down so the force of the water leaving the 3/8 line can't push out of the vent pipe.

Also check your return air duct for any leaks
