    Cal Farley's Boys Ranch

Only been past the Boys Ranch ,outside of Amarillo, one time. Does anyone know much about it?

Am considering sending a donation. I was surprised at what the surrounding area adjacent to it looks like. Pretty rugged territory.

Seems like a worthy charity to donate to.

it is. I have a friend I run bird dogs with that works there as a counselor. I think it would be a worthy charitable donation.

Great place. My best friend from college runs the outdoor adventure program for them.

Changes kids lives in a very good way!

They produce a pretty steady stream of State FFA officers and presidents. That's a pretty good testament!

Great place ran by great people. When My Mom died (she was a teacher) I gave all her books to their new library. And their rodeo is pretty awesome, you should go to it when it's happening.

                  Hi, guys,

My name is Cary, and I work for Cal Farley's. I stumbled across this thread while searching for mentions of us online, and thought I'd take a minute to introduce myself.

First, I want to thank you all for the kind words about our organization, and offer a special thanks to those who said they've supported us.

I don't want to hijack the thread or turn this into an advertisement, so I'll just offer a little background to hopefully answer Waggoner's question.

Cal Farley's is a Christ-centered child and family service organization, now celebrating our 75th anniversary. Our Boys Ranch campus, which you've passed on TX 385, is our oldest and most well-known campus. On any given day, it is home to 270 to 300 boys and girls ages 5 to 17. Our Genie Farley Harriman Center for Women & Children near Lubbock helps single mothers who are struggling to build independent lives. We also have seven Family Resource Centers across Texas and Oklahoma, which provide individualized social services to families and, in many cases, can prevent the need to bring children into an in-residence community.

We do not seek state or federal funding and, thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we offer these services at no cost to the families we serve.

OK, that still managed to sound more like a commercial than I intended. If you want to learn more about our organization, feel free to call me any time at 806-322-2571. (I promise no sales pitch, LOL!) If you're ever back in the area, I'd be glad to give you a tour -- from the site's pioneer-town past to the remarkable work being done with at-risk kids today, there's so much to share!

Thanks again, everyone, for the kind words. Ours is an exciting organization doing incredible work, and I appreciate your indulging me in sharing it with you!

Thanks so much for responding. I sure appreciate the additional info and hope to find time to take you up on that offer for a tour. The history of the place is very touching. Wish I could have met Mr. Farley and also the rancher who donated the land. Thanks again.

You know the Miller's that teach there? Went to school with his oldest boy Loren and graduated the year before they moved up there. Good people.

I haven't started personally donating to Cal Farley's yet but my parents have been donating since I can remember. Shot my first deer on the ranch on the other side of the road from the boys ranch and been by there more than a few times on the way up to colorado.
