I took my 5 year old out on the boat yesterday to soak some lines and get his mind off of eagerly awaiting duck season lol. Pretty proud of him, caught the first fish of the day on the first cast, and with determination caught his first trout. Just had to brag a little

That is what its all about. On a side note Cabelas make lifjackets for kids that had a mesh siding a lot cooler. Also I would suggest getting one of those cheap fighting belts and keep on the boat. Really helps little ones fight hard pulling fish. Great job.
