Deadwood, SD - Days of '76 Rodeo

I will be heading to Deadwood next week for the Days of '76 rodeo. I know our own HonkyTonkKid will be playing at the event center next to my hotel. Other than the rodeo, concert, and Mt. Rushmore, are there any other reccomendations for things to do?

Is anyone else headed to the rodeo or Sturgis?

Lots of cool stuff to do. Go to the chamber web site.

I've been to Deadwood a few times and just gambled, always seems to be a wild time!

Just helped some friends move up there, just outside of deadwood on Strawberry Pass. Tons to do. Rent UTV's to explore the national forest, Needles Highway, tour Lead Gold Mine, Badlands, gamble. The Friday night Prime Rib and Crablegs is worth the price.

Custer State park, Needles highway, Spearfish highway, an hour or so over into Wyoming is Devils Tower SP, Badlands, Crazy Horse monument being built. Mostly sight seeing things but it'll occupy some time.

Go see the crazy horse monument and museum, it dwarfs mt rushmore pretty neat, its not finished yet but still worth the drive. Also Custer National Forrest/Park is pretty neat to drive through.

In. We are celebrating 20 years next year and was thinking of Deadwood. Been there once and it was very nice. Just don't know if its good enough for the 20th...

That is what I have heard - it is set down in the Blackhills? Going to be there watching, but may get dragged into sorting calves, etc.

Thanks everyone for the ideas so far. I understood that the Crazy Horse memorial was pretty awesome. Now, I might be considering that one over Mt. Rushmore.

Are the pan-fried cubed rib-eyes all they're cracked up to be?

I will be staying at the Holiday Inn Deadwood Mountain Grand - it is supposed to be a really nice casino and resort. I will post up pictures along the trip!

Mt. Rushmore is better than Crazy Horse in my opinion. There are tons of things to do in the Black Hills. Caves, Hiking, Custer State Park, Needles Highway, hiking, Badlands, gold mines, Reptile Gardens, Bear Country, the list goes on and on.

I used to live there and still make it back about once a year. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you'd like.

You have better skip the ribeye and go for the calf fries.

You can trout fish in Custer state park. I was there last week and caught many the one day I fished. We did most of what has be mentioned above.

Custer State park(tent camped two nights at Wolf Camp Park, and it was kind of cool to wake up to wolves howling), Needles highway, Spearfish highway, Badlands, Crazy Horse, Rushmore cave........

Been to both and Crazy Horse was way better in my opinion. Bear Country wasn't bad.
