    Elk calls?

What's a good easy to use cow call? Granted I will be guided by a buddy who guides up there, I would still like to tinker with one and have it just in case.

I really like the stuff designed by Steve Chappell and Bugling Bull; I have 2 mouth reeds (estrous excited & the closer) and im also about to purchase the matriarch which is an open reed.

Steve Chappell has demonstration videos on youtube as well.

I have a Hoochie Mamma cow elk call. Got it for axis but did not seem to make a difference.

was up at Yellowstone national park last week. park rangers were not happy with us. seems to get the bulls all fired up.

but... they were still in velvet and did not seem to care.

But... it was funny to see the "oh chit " look from the ranger. He asked us not to use it in the park.

Those are some good choices. Most cow calls I've come across are pretty easy to learn. The matriach style calls do not like rain very much, in my experience. I like keeping a diaphragm in my mouth is case I am trying to draw & need to stop a Bull.

Hoochie Mama is awesome. I have about 30 different cow calls and carry 5 or 6 different ones each day to sound like a herd, not just one cow. Seems to work for me and they do not get use to one particular call.

Ryan, I have a hoochie mama you can borrow. If nothing else, it drives my dogs nuts

Hoochie mamma is a good one when mixed with other calls. I use it with Primos Ivory Plate diaphragm call. You really need to mix it up. Don't sound like every other tom **** and harry out there. Elk are getting real smart through the years. Check out elknut.com and buy his stuff and learn the language. Paul knows his stuff.

Hoochie Mama! You can adjust the tone too. My 5 year old daughter loves practicing with it while in my truck (since it sits in the cup holder) and she's gotten good enough I might have to bring her along for my caller ;-)
