    Anyone built their own press?

Looking at getting a new press. I don't want to drop 400+ on a name brand. Started looking on Archery Talk and saw plans for a linear press using a drop leg trailer jack. Pretty simple design, almost the same as a last chance archery press, I have all the tools to do it, should be able to for less than $100. Anyone done one?

I have entertained the same notion.

Getting the press fingers laser cut is the only real hurdle for me.

Let me know if you go forward with it, I'd love to see how you go about it.

I don't think it is truly necessary to disassemble the jack, just buy a good Bulldog dropleg style, and have the slider adjustment plus press ability. Need to pick up a jack, and see what it really looks like.

I found the handwheels on Amazon, which is cooler than a handle crank.

Need to build a sawhorse to mount it to, but I pressed the bow earlier and worked good. A can of Rustoleum and a sawhorse tomorrow and I'll post pics of the finished product.

I have a cad drawing around here somewhere with measurement from the one I build years ago. I will see if I can find them.

For the ones with the real reflex limb we build them out of a pipe clamp for gluing wood together.

I built a pipe press. Used a plasma torch to cut my fingers. Dipped them in a can of plasti dip. I will say that on a 65lb bow, you really gotta crank hard on the pipe vise.

I followed his idea after seeing his diy thread on it. Works pretty good, but I don't feel like mine's that hard to crank on a 60 lb. At the same time I built a draw board. Of course after doing all that, everything looked to be in great tune and haven't used it much since. Guess I need to double check here soon in case I plan to hunt with it over the recurve.

Haven't finished it up. I used 3/16 x 2" angle iron and it is twisting quite a bit under load. I'm going to weld on 1.5" square tube instead then weld the fingers to pieces of 2" square tube so I can move the fingers in and out to adjusted for different bows. Probably thread a small hole I the back of the 2" and put a wing nut or something on it to tighten down. Trial by error. lol. I wont be able to work on it until next weekend though.

Wonder if you got a pipe clamp with a less steep thread pitch. That would help a lot
